That’s something I like to focus on – building permits. Even if someone doesn’t hire me for their project, I always tell them to make sure that the company they do hire gets permits. It’s an acid test – i don’t want anyone working in my house that is afraid to have the city inspect their work. It also improves resale value. Also, there is a misconception that getting a building permit raises the price of the job. That is not true at all. Building permits ensure that you get what you are paying for and that the price for the work being done will reflect that.
